Upcycle & Repurpose
A dichotomy between trash and treasure or one person’s trash can be another’s gold

A dichotomy is a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different. In this series, I re-define “trash” by re-purposing discarded materials (cardboard and bubble wrap) into molds used for paper casting. Paper pulp (sourced from recycled paper) is poured into the mold. The cured piece is then enhanced with variations of colored pulp, or, gilded with precious metal.

Although we may see recycling as a modern concept evolved from the 1970s environmental movement, historically it has been common for households to practice conservation and recycling. Composting of organic household waste was known to the Greeks and Romans as a means fertilizing soil. Our efforts to recycle have generally increased from year to year. This success can be traced to wide public acceptance, the improved economics of recycling and laws requiring recycling collections or enforcing recycled content in certain manufacturing processes.

Love more/More Love

Bombings, mass-murder,
hate crimes... what frightening times we live in.

It seems like every day we are faced with a new incident of terrorism, either at home or in the world.
Don't become desensitized.
Remember: there is love in the world

You can create love by giving it in small, but meaningful ways. Be kind...listen to people. Don't become desensitized. You have the power to give love. More love? Love more.

ArtAttack/Oak Bluffs is a series of 52, 9x12" oil paintings on canvas boards. They are installed in, and around, the Oak Bluffs Cultural District, where they were produced. It is a collaborative effort between OB residents Harry Judd and Peter Mallen as a personal response to the escalating terrorism in the world today.
